Local History |
In the 1890's folks travelling between Canyon &
Tascosa (now Boy's Ranch) would stop at an old rock dugout along the
Wildorado Creek. Here they found good spring water & a cool place
to rest. They could shoe their horses & repair their wagons before
getting back on the road. Eventually many travelers stayed, and around
1900 established the present townsite of Wildorado. Throughout the
years those that have chosen to stay have experienced the relaxed &
friendly way of life that Wildorado people enjoy.
Located in SE Oldham County, residents here enjoy the best of both
worlds with rural living plus easy access to a major city. The main
thoroughfare was the Old Ozark Trail, which became the famous Route 66,
& eventually gave way to today's I-40. Amarillo is just 15 min.
away to the east.
